Focaccia

About the Recipe

Focaccia is an oven baked flat bread that originated in Italy. Despite it's appearance, it is not linked to pizza, however its style and texture is similar. it is also considered the Italian version of a fougasse. it can also be embelished with other ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Water 2 cups

  • Sugar 1/8 cup

  • Active dry yeast 1 1/8 tsp

  • Canola or vegetable oil 1/4 cup

  • Flour 5 cups (plus more if needed)

  • Salt 1tbsp

Preparation

Step 1


Combine water, sugar, yeast and oil in a bowl and cover with Saran Wrap. Let proof for 10mins.



Step 2


In separate bowl, mix flour and salt.



Step 3


With your mixer on low, slowly add dry ingredients to wet, one cup at a time till well blended and dough no longer sticks to the side of the bowl. Add more flour if needed (should be just slightly sticky).



Step 4


Cover and let rise 1hr.



Step 5


Punch down dough. Add generous amount of oil to bottom of a cookie pan. Divide your dough in two and stretch loaves out into a rectangular shape. Place on the oiled pan and push down with fingertips to create small craters in dough.



Step 6


Preheat oven to 500' F.



Step 7


Brush more oil on top and sprinkle with kosher salt.



Step 8


Let sit on the pan for 20min



Step 9


Bake @500' F for 20min. Serve!
